We are looking for volunteers to mentor children across 10 sessions to help them read with meaning and improve their reading ability via pair and group activities.

About the Programme & Service Users :
ALPS Odyssey, a centre-based programme by SHINE Children & Youth Services, aims to empower children to enjoy reading with meaning, knowledge, and understanding. The program serves children aged 7-12. This is a 10 sessions volunteer-supported reading programme based on a leveled reading system. Reading Grade (R.G.) of children will be assessed and graded readers will be recommended based on their R.G.

Key Responsibilities :
As a Reading Mentor, you will: 📌 Undergo training pre-program to learn relevant skills and prog specific knowledge 📌 Read with children (in pairs or small groups) 📌 Listen to children reading aloud 📌 Have discussions with the children to build their confidence and skills (reading and comprehension) 📌 Take part in session briefings / debriefings as part of volunteer skills development and support

Requirements

Role Requirements:
📌 Minimum Age: 17 📌 Patient with children especially when they are unmotivated or slower. 📌 Open to learning ways of guiding children. 📌 Able to commit for the duration of the reading programme. 📌 Able to attend pre-volunteering training prior the start of AO 📌Your registered email with SHINE will be used to create a volunteer.gov.sg account.
